Hunting: Sika Hunting

June 22, 2008 – 1:31 pm

Sika hunting pits hunters against a small to medium sized deer that comes in various amounts of colors. Males of the species usually have antlers that can be anywhere in between 28 to 48 centimeters in length. The most common color for the sika is a mahogany brown with white spots.

As with most hunting in Texas, sika hunting is most commonly found in the Edwards Plateau and in South Texas. The sikas enjoy woodland areas with a large clearing so that they can come out and eat. Sika usually feed on grass and leaves but they really enjoy live oak with hackberry, wild plum, and greenbrier.

Sika Hunting is Very Common in Texas
Siberia is where the sika is originally from but they can now be found in over 70 counties in Texas, mostly in the central and southern regions. The population of the sika was close to 12,000 a couple of years ago. Rangers still believe that the amount of the sika deer hovers around this amount if not higher.

Private ranches have made it very easy for people who want to go sika hunting. These ranches allow hunters to hunt on their private land for all kinds of big, exotic game. Hunters may reserve a couple days on the ranch where they are provide breakfast, lunch and dinner and a room to stay in. Booking a room at these ranches is very easy online.
